Chapters 1-6 Summaries
Stanley Yelnats the 4th was just as unlucky as the three Stanely Yelnats before him. Although his father was a smart and had a lot of perseverance, he did not make a lot of money as an inventor. Other than the fact that Stanley was unlucky and came from a poor family, he was also overweight and was having the worst day ever. He was bullied, teased, taunted, and worst of all, arrested. While in court, he is given two choices, go to Camp Green Lake, or go to jail. Stanley had never been to camp and decided that even if it was bad, it couldn’t be as bad as jail. After a nine-hour bus ride, he arrives at Camp Green Lake. There is no green and not a lake in sight. He meets his new counselors, Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanscki. He also meets his strangely nicknamed tent-mates and learns his schedule for the next eighteen months. He is to dig a five-foot hole everyday.

Summaries for chapters 7-9
Stanley Yelnats is about to start digging his first hole when he suddenly has a flashback. Stanley Yelnats the 1st wants to buy and mary a farmers daughter but he has a rival Igor. To decide who gets to mary his daughter the two rivals have to each care for pigs and get them as fat and juicy as possible and he will have to carry his pig up and down the mountain side. But then his friend Madame Zeroni asks him to carry her up the mountain and he promises or else he will be cursed. So three months later Myrah brings his pig and so does Igor and they are both extremely large. The daughter gets to decide and chooses and pics Igor. So he leaves to to the states and forgets to carry Madame Zeroni up the mountain and becomes cursed with bad luck. Stanley finishes his first hole with blisters all over his hands. Stanley says the yellow spotted lizards all have 11 spots that are barely visible, sharp black teeth, and eyes that look red but are actually yellow. Stanly walks to the rec. hall after his 4 minute shower and gets tripped by a giant orange blob sitting on a couch whom he gets into a fight with but gets rescued by armpit and squid. Later Stanley gets the name Caveman.

16-21 Summary
The Warden is still making all the campers search for more interesting items. But she is getting impatient and very angry. For example, when one kid had to go to the bathroom, she stabbed him with a pitchfork. After the three holes formed into one big one, the Warden stopped watching them dig. A couple days later, when Mr. Sir was filling their canteens, Magnet stole Mr. Sir’s sunflower seeds. They were passing it around and eating it when Mr. Sir came and Stanley was holding the seeds. Stanley took the blame and was taken to the Warden. When he got there, he took the blame again but Mr. Sir was suspicious. The Warden started showing Stanley her special nail polish that is snake venom. When Mr. Sir talked back to the Warden, she swiped the snake venom on Mr. Sir’s face. She said it was okay for Stanley to go back to his hole.
Summaries 22-28
After returning from the Warden, Stanley is surprised to see that someone had nearly finished digging his hole. Stanley was the first one finished and got take his shower first. Stanley wondered why Zero had dug his hole for him. When Zero was done digging and showering, Stanley began to teach him to read. While teaching Zero to read, Stanley realizes how good at math he is. The next morning at breakfast, Stanley notices that Mr. Sir’s scratched cheek had swollen to the size of a cantaloupe. Three days since the Warren scratched Mr. Sir. Every time Mr. Sir came to fill canteens, he poured Stanley’s water on the ground. Although Mr. Pendanski gives him extra water, Stanley is still thirsty. One day, Mr. Sir fills his canteen but also puts something strange in it. Stanley must go one more day without water. Katherine Barlow was the only school teacher in Green Lake, made the best spiced peaches, and the only person who had ever turned down Charles Walker.
Sam the onion man and his donkey Mary Lou sold fresh onions and different onion made remedies. Sam is good with his hands so he offers to fix the schoolhouse roof. When he finishes, Katherine asks him to fix everything else. When there are no more jobs for Sam to do, Katherine kisses him. A woman sees this happens and everything goes wrong. Since it is illegal for a Negro to kiss a white, Sam is scheduled to be hung. After the schoolhouse is burnt, Sam and Katherine make their escape. When plans fail and Sam and Mary Lou are killed, Katherine decides to become a well-known outlaw. Summery Emma Wearing
Summary July the eighth came and on that day(zig zag’s birthday) a lot of things happened like zig zag thought he was so much cooler than everyone else, and even got to get an extra juice carton, and slept in that day. When lunch came Zig Zag complained about how Stanley got to rest while Zero dug his hole, when the fighting got to a point when the Warden came out and started asking Zero how to spell some words after he got H-a-t wrong Mom called him stupid. Then zero ran away. After 4 days and still no clue of where Zero is and the Warden destroying all of his records then Stanley got an idea, god’s thumb might be where Zero is. So after stealing the water truck and getting stuck in a hole and running away he ends up finding a hole with a family of Yellow Spotted Lizards, now he is gone off looking for Zero.

As Stanley continues to walk through the desert he begins to lose hope until he sees a small pond and begins walking toward it he finds out that it is just his imagination. As he walks a little Stanley comes across a boat and this would seem normal knowing that there was once a lake here. As he walks toward the boat he hears loud rustling inside, and out-strecthes a long orange-sleeved arm. Zero. Stanley notices that the boat is called Mary Lou. He walks in the boat and there are many shelfs covered in what Zero called sploosh. The sploosh looks gross but tastes like heaven in a shattered jar. After drinking all the sploosh and two thumbs up they head off for big thumb. Along the way Zero drops in pain grabbing his stomach several times. After a while the land gets hilly and big thumb gets coverd by the hills. Soon they come to big thumb. Once Stanley helps up Zero, he pulls up Stanley. As they walk up the mountain Zero drops a couple more times but the last time is serous he drops to the ground and doesn't get up. Zero lies there in stillness but stanley digs a small hole and gets out the muddy water and revives Zero.
Stanley woke up in a meadow with the big thumb towering above him in shades of brown red and orange Stanley got up and looked at the water hole witch was about 2 feet deep and 3 feet across but there was only about 2 inches of water in the hole Stanley fingers hurt from digging Stanley got some water into his mouth and swished it around trying to filter it then he tried to talk but nothing came out he tried again it heart to talk but he did then Stanley thought about going to get the shovel but thought he wouldn’t have the strength to get back up the hill and he didn’t want to leave zero thinking he might die then zero told Stanley something he said he stole the shoes but Stanley didn’t believe so he just went with it then Stanley headed down the mountain he couldn’t see the shovel or sack so he just went down then when he finally thought he had gone to far he saw a dent in the grass and went over and saw the shovel and sack he couldn’t believe he had carried zero up the intire mountain but he did then zero tells Stanley about his child hood and its really sad:[

Summary
Stanley and Zero decide to go back to the camp. They wait until it is dark, and start digging. Suddenly, while Stanley is digging, he strikes something hard. After carefully digging it out, they find a hard suitcase. As soon as they pull it up, the Warden says, “Thank you. You have been much help.” The Warden is about to take the suitcase when she see a yellow spotted lizard on it. Then Stanley realizes that he stepped in nest of them. Zero and Stanley stay as still as statues. They have no choice but to wait until they die or the lizard jumps off them. In the morning, the lizards decide to jump off. A car pulls up to the lake. Two people get out, a man and a woman. They come over to the Warden and start asking questions but the warden is telling the lies. Stanley tries to say she’s lying, but the lady tells him to be quiet. The man pulls the warden aside and asks her more questions. The lady explains that she is Stanley’s lawyer. When she asks for Zero’s record, she doesn’t have it. The lady takes Stanley and Zero home. On the way home, she says Stanley’s dad hasn’t found a way to recycle shoes, but he has invented a foot odor block. What was in the chest were diamonds, which got the about $20,000, and some papers that belonged to the first Stanley Yelnats. Those got the a little under $1,000,000. Stanley’s lawyer shut down Camp Green Lake and it became a Girl Scout camp.
